Reusable Pd@PEG Catalyst for Aerobic Dehydrogenative C−H/C−H Arylations of 1,2,3-Triazoles

Aerobic C−H arylations were accomplished in benign polyethylene glycol solvent. The easily reusable catalyst Pd(OAc)2 proved to be highly effective for the intramolecular oxidative C−H arylation of 1,2,3-triazoles, thus, enabling a step-economical synthesis of bio-active derivatives in a sustainable fashion (see scheme).

Lattice Shrinkage by Incorporation of Recombinant Starmaker-Like Protein within Bioinspired Calcium Carbonate Crystals

Controlled growth: The starmaker-like (Stm-l) protein promotes calcium carbonate nucleation and anisotropic tailoring of crystal morphology. Intracrystalline incorporation of protein results in shrinkage of the crystal lattice volume (see figure). The ring pattern, which is composed of a protein-enriched region flanked by protein-depleted regions, is a result of both the Ostwald-like ripening process and intrinsic properties of Stm-l.

Adding active sites: A highly efficient iron/nitrogen-doped carbon (Fe/N-C) catalyst is synthesized through a spatial isolation strategy, involving the pyrolysis of bioinspired polydopamine (PDA)-based hybrid microsphere precursors loaded with atomically dispersed Fe3+/Zn2+ ions and N-rich melamine (see figure). The Fe-N/C catalyst exhibits superior and similar oxygen reduction reaction activities to that of Pt/C in alkaline and acidic solutions, respectively.
