Enhanced Separation Concept (ESC): Removing the Functional Subunit from the Electrode by Molecular Design

The reliability of single molecule switches is improved by better separating the molecule's functional subunit from the electrode surface. Both, increasing the spacing and insulation by bulky substituents contributed to increase the likeliness of spin cross-over events in immobilized iron(II) terpyridine complexes.

Nano-sized zeolite for mixed matrix membranes: Pure-gas-permeation measurements on PVAc mixed-matrix membranes with nano-particular zeolite as the inorganic filler demonstrate the advantages of nano-sizing the zeolite for gas-separation applications. At low filler content levels, agglomeration of the nanoparticles is avoided by silanation of the zeolite before incorporation into the polymer.

Mesoionic 1,2,3-Triazolo[1,5-<i>a</i>]pyridine-3-ylidenes in Phosphorescent Platinum(II) Complexes

It′s all yellow: 1,2,3-triazolo[1,5-a]pyridine-3-ylidenes were used as a mesoionic ligand platform to synthesize cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes bearing β-diketonate ligands of varying steric demand. The photophysical properties of the target complexes were investigated, with each complex demonstrating yellow phosphorescence upon photoexcitation. The electronic characteristics were studied with DFT calculations and cyclic voltammetry measurements.

Ring expansion of 1,3-diaza-heterocycles is reported for the synthesis of benzofused N-heterocycles, which operates via the first examples of formal aryne insertion into a C(sp3)-N σ-bond. 2,3,4,5-Tetrahydro-1H-benzo[e][1,4]diazepines and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinazolines have been prepared from the corresponding imidazolidines and 1,3-diazetidines.

Highly regioselective synthetic methodology leading to densely functionalised C(3), C(4) and C(5) substituted pyrazoles via thermal [3+2]-dipolar cycloaddition, of α-diazoacetates and α-thio-β-chloroacrylamides, at the sulfide, sulfoxide and sulfone levels of oxidation, is described. This method allows access to C(4)-sulfenyl or sulfonyl pyrazoles, through migration of the sulfur substituent at the sulfide and sulfone oxidation levels, while elimination of the sulfinyl group leading to 3,5-disubstituted pyrazoles, is observed.

Iron-Catalysed Direct Aromatic Amination with <i>N</i>-Chloroamines

An optimized procedure for the iron-catalysed direct intra- and intermolecular amination of aromatic C-H bonds with aminium radicals generated from N-chloroamines is reported. A range of substituted tetrahydroquinolines were readily prepared, while extension to the synthesis of benzomorpholines was more limited in scope. A direct one-pot variant enabled direct formal oxidative N-H/C-H coupling.

Dopamine is easily oxidized to polydopamine containing dopamine, indole, and pyrrole units. It adheres at all type of surfaces.
